After 25 years in their Spanish bungalow, our clients were ready for a change – but were nervous they would have to sacrifice character for more space and better indoor outdoor flow.
By building a small addition and a new deck, we created a new en-suite bathroom and were able to reconfigure the kitchen to provide a new eating space and bar counter.
Outside, the deck creates an arched pasillo, which functions both as a transitional space from the side yard and shade structure. We commissioned handmade tile for the exterior stair risers, and hand stained and aged Saltillo tile on the treads. These, combined with a rust aged custom metal rail, makes the deck feel like it has always been there.
Inside, the original character was retained by salvaging and restoring doors, windows and fireplaces and reclaimed wood shelves now showcase our clients amazing collection of Americana.
